Welcome to Week 11!

  • Exam 3 has been posted!
  • Assessment Project has also been posted
    • Due on Sunday, 11/17 at 11:59pm
  • Week 11 assignments are due on Sunday, 11/3 at 11:59pm

Cell Cycle

Onion root tip cells under a compound light microscope

When does a cell divide?

  • When an organism is growing
  • When tissues are damaged and cells need to be replaced
  • When older cells need replacing (such as skin cells)

Mitotic Phase

Drawings of onion root tip cells

Consists of 2 subphases:

  • Mitosis
    • Prophase
    • Metaphase
    • Anaphase
    • Telophase
  • Cytokinesis

Mitotic Phase

  • Work on Part 1 and 2 during today's class:
    • Part 1: Look at the cell cycle pictures around the room
    • Part 2: Use your compound light microscope
