Comparative and Superlative forms
How to use the -er?
Comparative form
- We add -er to one-syllable adjectives and verbs to change them to their comparative form.
- We also can use more + adjective when we have:
- with one-syllable past participle adjectives
- with fun, real, right and wrong
- when we are comparing two qualities
Examples
- With one-syllable past participle adjectives:
- "I feel more tired today than yesterday."
- " High School is harder than elementary school"
- "I am taller than I use to be"
Examples
- With fun, real, right and wrong
- "This game is more fun than the last one we played".
- "She is more right about the situation than he is".
- "This painting looks more real than the one in the gallery".
- "His answer was more wrong than I initially thought".
Examples
- When we are comparing two qualities
- "He is taller than me".
- "She is more intelligent than he is".
- "She is prettier than me".
