How to use the -er?

Comparative form

  • We add -er to one-syllable adjectives and verbs to change them to their comparative form.
  • We also can use more + adjective when we have:
    • with one-syllable past participle adjectives
    • with fun, real, right and wrong
    • when we are comparing two qualities

Examples

  • With one-syllable past participle adjectives:
    • "I feel more tired today than yesterday."
    • " High School is harder than elementary school"
    • "I am taller than I use to be"

Examples

  • With fun, real, right and wrong
    • "This game is more fun than the last one we played".
    • "She is more right about the situation than he is".
    • "This painting looks more real than the one in the gallery".
    • "His answer was more wrong than I initially thought".

Examples

  • When we are comparing two qualities
    • "He is taller than me".
    • "She is more intelligent than he is".
    • "She is prettier than me".
