Dream Vacation Destination

My dream vacation is the Moon. The Moon is a rock orbiting around the Earth, and is know as a natural satellite. While it is mostly made out of iron there is some other metals like magnesium, aluminum, titanium, gold, silver, and mercury. There is a lot of ice mostly on the Moon's poles. There is also water all across the Moon's surface.

Environmental Emergencies

During the day the Moon can reach temperatures as high as 250 degrees farenheit. These high temperatures can cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

During the night the temperatures can drop to as low as 208 degrees farenheit. These low temperatures can cause hypothermia and frostbite

Signs and Symptoms of Heat

Heat cramps is caused be dehydration most likely from excessive sweating in those high temperatures. somes signs you are experiencing heat cramps is exactly how it sounds you experience cramps usually in your abdomin, back, arms, and legs due to the loss of electrolytes. You could also experience, nausea, fatigue, and dissiness. Somes signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion are the same as heat cramps but also include heavy sweating, headache, cool clammy skin, and rapid pulse. some signs and symptoms of heat stroke are similar to heat exhaustion but also include no sweating, AMS, and seizures.

Signs and Symptoms of Cold

"Signs and symptoms of generalized hypothermia typically occur in stages as the body core temperature falls."(Mistovich, p.868). These include decreased mental status, amnesia, mood changes, slow speech, exhaustion, joint/ muscle stiffness, slow heart rate, and coordination problems. Some signs and symptoms of frostbite include cold skin, numbness, skin color changes, hard or waxy skin, blisters, swelling, pain, and gangrene.

Care for Emergencies
  • Heat cramps: Hydrate, cool down, and monitor symptoms
  • Heat exhaustion: Move to cool place, oxygenate, remove/ loosen clothes, apply cold wet compresses, place supine with feet elevated
  • Heat stroke: Remove from heat, remove/loosen clothes, oxygenate, use tepid water to cool patient, prepare to manage seizures
  • Hypothermia: Prevent further heat loss, rewarm, monitor
  • Frostbite: Remove from cold, use tepid water to warm up, do not rub effected areas
