  • We have read several stories over the nine weeks pertaining to growing up.
  • The road to adulthood is often paved with memorable, and sometimes difficult, events.
  • These events shape our lives and will eventually make us adults who are wiser for having had the experiences.

Learning Objectives

Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using digital tools and media. In creating digital collages, students can use tools like Canva, Adobe Spark, or Google Slides to design and communicate visual stories or ideas effectively. They choose elements, arrange images, and use digital effects to convey complex themes, practicing creative expression. Physical or digital collage projects can integrate both personal and educational content, allowing students to develop digital storytelling skills and use multimedia to communicate ideas clearly.

The student gives a reasonable explanation of how every item in the collage is related to the assigned theme. For most items, the relationship is clear without explanation.

Much time and effort went into the planning and design of the collage. It is clear the student used class time efficiently.

Graphics are cut to an appropriate size, shape and are arranged neatly. Care has been taken to balance the pictures across the area. Items are glued neatly and securely.

All of the graphics or objects used in the collage reflect a degree of student creativity in their display.

milestones on the path to growing up

What defines an event or experience in a young person’s life as a milestone or rite of passage?

For this assignment, you will be creating a collage on an 8 x 11 Cardstock Board (given to you in your ELA class) One important skill in reading is the ability to look back on a piece and decide what overall theme or message can be found in it. This even applies to pictures on a page. You will use old magazines and choose pictures that reflect your path to growing up. You should catalog your journey from birth to adulthood. What milestones have you achieved already? What milestone would you like to accomplish?

Collage Checklist: • Size of collage • Include your name in the top left corner • Neatness counts! Make sure your collage is visually attractive and clearly communicates your message • All items must be firmly affixed to the poster board using glue (no tape or staples) • Be prepared to explain why you chose the quotes, images, and words on your collage and how each relates to your milestones in life.
