Project-Based Learning Elements and Lesson Plan Execution
1. Anchor (Driving Question): How can we design a sustainable city that addresses environmental challenges and promotes well-being for future generations? 2. Task: Students will work in teams to design a sustainable city model using Canva. Their goal is to propose solutions that address water management, energy consumption, waste reduction, and transportation. 3. Directions for Students: • Research sustainable city elements (energy, water systems, waste, transportation). • Brainstorm solutions with your team and sketch initial ideas. • Use Canva to create a visual model of your city. • Prepare a presentation explaining how your city addresses sustainability challenges. 4. Student Choices: • Teams can focus more on specific areas (e.g., energy-efficient buildings or eco-friendly transportation). • Students choose design elements in Canva and presentation formats (video, live presentation, or infographic). 5. Student Inquiry: • Students will conduct research to answer: What are the most pressing environmental issues in cities? and What sustainable technologies exist today? 6. Collaboration and Teamwork: • Teams will divide roles: researcher, designer, presenter, and editor. • Collaboration will be supported via shared Google Docs for team planning. 7. Teacher Coaching and Feedback: • The teacher will provide regular check-ins to guide teams and suggest resources. • Midway feedback will help students refine their projects based on peer and teacher input. 8. Student Reflection: • Each student will write a brief reflection on what they learned about sustainability and teamwork. 9. Public Presentation: • Students will present their city models to the class and invited guests (parents, school staff) using Canva slides. • Feedback will be collected from the audience using Google Forms.
