Lucía y el Día de Muertos
Hay una chica. La chica se llama Lucía. Lucía es de México.
¡Hola! Me llamo Lucía.
Bread of the dead is a sweet roll that is traditionally baked for Día de Muertos. It is often placed on the graves or ofrendas of deceased relatives.
Papel picado is a craft made by cutting tissue paper into elaborate designs. It is said to represent the fragility of life.
Lucía necesita las velas para la ofrenda.
Candles are often lit in the cemetaries and on the ofrendas. The light from the candles is said to guide the spirits of deceased relatives to celebrate with us.
Lucía necesita el cempazuchitl para la ofrenda.
Marigolds are often considered "el flor del muerto" (the flower of the dead). They are used to decorate ofrendas and gravesites. It is said that their bright color and strong floral smell will guide the spirits of our loved ones to celebrate with us.
Representations of skulls and skeletons are used on Day of the Dead. It is common for people to paint their faces like these skulls. People also make sugar skulls and decorate them with icing to eat.
La ofrenda está completa. Es la hora de celebrar.
