Ethical vs Unethical

Hacking began at the dawn of the age of computing, and was initially largely harmless and innocent, consisting of pranks and the exploration of early exploits in digital systems, such as phreaking.

In the end, all of the different hacker hats impact cybersecurity; whether it's white hats developing new protections against malicious attacks, or black hats finding innovative new ways to circumvent existing protections, hackers are an inextricable element of the cybersecurity ecosystem. Grey hats play an interesting, if mercurial role, sometimes aiding the authorities (as in the case of the FBI informant who provided the phone crack) and sometimes against.
