Schrödinger'sAtomic theory

By: Izan, Justin, Maider and Mateo

Introduction

In this presentation we are going to talk about Schrödinger's take on the atomic model, the concept of superposition, quantum mechanics and schrödinger's cat.

Main Idea:

Quantum model

Schrödinger's model is based on a cloud of electrons around the nucleus, it reffers to the electrons as waves and the most concentrated spaces as orbitals where electrons are most likely to be found.

What is something quantum?

Basically, An amount of something in a certain space

Cloud

An electron cloud is an example of superposition, everywhere inside that green area there might be an electron.

What is superposition?

In simple physics superposition doesn't exist because an object can only be in one definitive state. But in quantum physics it can. It's when something has 2 potential states at the same time.

"So something that yes but no"

Waves

As shown in the graph, the waves indicate the most amount of atoms in the most possible radius around the nucleus
The orbitals are the spaces where the electron most probably is, and the spaces where the electron isn't is are called nodes.

Orbitals

Why is it important?

Schrödinger made an equation that allowed to calculate the evolution of atoms over time. This set a foundation in modern quantum machanics and helped develop: MRI scanners, lasers and quantum computers.
