The 4C's that I feel relate to my classroom and teaching style the most are: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These words guide every one of my lessons and I use them as a framework to make sure that I am teaching each lesson to its fullest. I believe that technology will continue to be a huge part of our lives and it is so important to incorporate technology into each lesson. There are so many ways to bring technology into the classroom that relate to the 4C's of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.

Why these 4C's?

This video is a great overview of the 4C's and how they relate to technology!

01

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is so important to help students fully understand the learning goal . SSome technologies that foster critical thinking are Google Docs, Virtual Simulations, and CodeMonkey. Critical thinking can be applied to many different lessons and scenarios. Students can use Google Docs to peer review other students work to find errors or things to add. PhET Interactive Simulations are a great way to engage students while theu critically think to find the solution. CodeMonkey is a great introduction to coding for kids and students are able to try out different ways to program concepts.

Collaboration

Collaboration is a huge part of my lessons as a 5th grade teacher. My students love to work together on projects and I love to find different ways for them to collaborate. Some of my favorite technologies that promote collaboration are: Google Workspace, Goose Chase, and Popplet. Google Workspace is full of tools like docs, slides, and classroom that allow students to work together on one project. My students enjoy building slides together to present their information. Goose Chase is a super fun app that gets students up and moving. Students are placed into groups and they go on a scavenger hunt related to the lesson. This is such a fun, interactive way to get students to learn. Popplet is website where students can make mindmaps together. This is a great way to display all of their different ideas and questions about the topic. These are just three ways to get students to collaborate with technology, but there are many more. Technology brings more engagment into collaboration.

Communication

There are so many ways to communicate and I encourage my students to be open-minded and find new ways to communicate with others. The three main ways of communication are verbal, nonverbal, and written. Some technologies that I use with my students to foster communication are: Flipgrid, Google Classroom, and Scratch. I love using different ways of communcation for assignments. For verbal communication, students can use Flipgrid to record a short video response to questions on a topic. For nonverbal communication, I have students create short games/videos that tell a story without words on Scratch. I use Google Classroom to make discussion posts for students to respond to a prompt with written communication.

Creativity

Students love to create and show their work to others. Creativity is such a important tool for learning and engagment. If a student can create something related to a topic, it means they have mastered it enough to teach it. Some of my favorite creation technologies are Canva, Google Slides, and Pixton. Canva can be used to create infographics, presentations, timelines, and more. Students can use Canva to create a summary of their learning. Google Slides is a great platform for students to create presentions that showcase their research. Pixton is a fun website for students to create comics to tell their own stories. These technologies are easy ways to include creation into lessons.
