Minnesota, located in the northern part of the U.S., is known for its vibrant cities, like Minneapolis and St. Paul (the "Twin Cities"), and also for its vast wilderness areas, and deep cultural history. This country, became the 32nd state of the union on May 11, 1858.
minnesota in general
Until the middle of the 19th century, two major peoples occupied what is now Minnesota: the Ojibwa in the north and east and the Dakota (Sioux) in the south and west. The state of Minnesota and the Minnesota Territory that preceded it were named after the Minnesota River. The word "Minnesota" is derived from the Dakota name for that river region, Mnísota or Mní Sota. "Mní" (also spelled "miní") means water, a common theme of Minnesota place names. But the meaning of "sota" depends on how it is pronounced. When Mní Sota is pronounced with a hard "s" sound — the way the state's name is typically spoken — it means "clear".

what to see in minnesota
There are some beautiful places that you need to see if you go to Minnnesota: The North Shore Scenic Drive, for example, which follows the north shore of Lake Superior from Duluth to Canada. Along this route are many of the top state parks in Minnesota, including Split Rock Lighthouse, Tettegouche, and Grand Portage State Park, other missable destinations.
