Massachusetts
Massachusetts is one of the fifty states that make up the United States of America and is located in the New England region. It borders New Hampshire and Vermont to the north, New York to the west, Rhode Island to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. It is the 7th smallest and 15th most populous of the 50 states of the United States. The state has two distinct metropolitan areas: Greater Boston to the east and the Springfield metropolitan area to the west.
The origin of the name comes from that of the Massachusetts Indians, who inhabited the current territory of the state when the Pilgrim Fathers arrived in 1620
The Origin of the Name
The state has a temperate climate. Western Massachusetts is colder but drier, but winter snowfall can be heavier there than near the coast. July is the warmest month, with averages around 72 °F (22 °C), compared to -26 °F (-3 °C) in January, the coldest month
