Who is Stanislavsky??
His methods

Subtext: Stanislavsky taught that not everything a character says is literal. Actors should understsand the emotions and their intentions between their lines.Which makes the show more interesting and clearer for the audience to understand it more. It also conveys more than just spoken words.

The magic if: his concept of asking 'what if?' helped actors to imagine themselves as the character that they are playing to help them understand them more.By using this technique the peformers can explore how they would react if they were in the same predicument as the character which creates a deeper meaning.

Objectives and actions: Stanislavsky emphasized the importance of understanding a characters objectives what they want in a scene and the actions that they will take to acheive those goals. This kind of focus helps actors to portray their characters more and have clear motivation and conflict to make it more convincing.

Emotional memory: Stanislavsky made a technique which encouraged actors to recall there own personal memories that evoke their emotions that relate to the character. They use it by accessing the genuine feelings so actors can create more authentic and interesting peformances.

Stanislavsky methods

Given circumstances:Stanislavsky used the conceot of 'given circumstances' as a crucial elrement in his acting system. The given circumstrances refer to the specific conditions and context in which a character exists including their backround, enviroment, relationships and the events that have shaped their life. By understanding these circumstances actors can create a more authentic portrayal of their characters

Improvisation: Stanislavsky encouraged a lot of actors to use improvisation as a way to develop their characters and different aspects of their roles. This practice hdelps peformers become more adaptable and responsive in their peformances. It also makes them very cretaive with what they can come up with.

Section 2

18/09/24At the start of the lesson we looked at the scenes we were set for homework. It was supposed to be silent and we look like we didnt want to speak to onev another. We started working with the magic if. The magic if is when the actor puts themselves into their character that they are playing. So they find different ways to become that character. Along with that we played a phone exercise to see how fast we can find things. It was where we had to find a parter either a or b takes the partners phone and hides it in the room to see how well they find it then we found out where the phones were and did the same exercise but ewe knew whee there were.

11/09/24 On this day we did practical work to show how well we could communicate with one another. We did this by playing a game where there was chairs spread around the the room and everyone had a seat the whole point was to prevent Blanka from sitting down. After the practice round we did it in a way where we turned it into a real life situation by being mean girls and not wanting her around. We used eye contact gestures to tell where everyone should go and when. We played a game of zip zap bong but instead of the actual game we added new rules to make it more interesting. After we played house kid storm. Lastly we came up with our own games and made scenes out of it.

3/10/24 In this lesson i gained a clearer knowledge of what subtext actually was which is essential for making our lines more believable and enriching the audience's comprehension of the narrative. According to stanislavsky subtext is the underlying current that flows beneath the spoken words giving them life and context. In my script the precense of subtext is particularly pronounced reflecting the intensity of the material. Foe instance, one quote,'its really old; it was like last summer,' implies a contrast between age and youth, suggesting that the speaker feels disconnected from the timeline of events. Another line, 'Go on then,' conveys a flirtatious dynamic between the character and the teacher, hinting at an underlying desire for connection. These subtexts made our peformances more engaginf and relatable enhancing the overall viewing experience. By incorporating subtext onto our delivery we not only brought our characters to life but also created a richer narrative for the audience to engage with. This lesson underscored the importance of understanding the layers of meaning in our scripts and hiow they contribute to the overall impact of our peformances.

25/09/24 On this day it was a dynamic exploration of intentions and active engagement in our acting practice. We immersed ourselves in our plays, focusing on embodying our characters through physical element. A particularly powerful scenario involved depicting conflict where one individual desired to exit the room while partner resisted. Thids exercise effectively illustrated the complexities of conflict and tension within relationships, allowing us to explore the emotional stakes involved. In addition we plsyed a yes or no game where we infused our responses with purpose.

16/10/24 Recently, we participated in an acting workshop led by a guest instructor from another college. The workshop began with an imaginatie exercise that encouraged us to explore vaeious perspectives on elements such as neighbhorhood, class, floor, and sound. This exercise was instrumental in expanding our creative thinking. Following this we engaged in practicing scenes focusing on our peformances and addressing areas that needed improvement. A significant aspect of our learning involved the stanislavsky method where we delved into concepts of subtext and given circumstances. We examined the critical questions of who, when, what, where, why and how which helped us to deepen our character development and enhance the authenticity of our portrayals. This workshop not only provided us with valuable insights but also fostered a collaborative enviroment.

9/10/24 In our recent lesson, we engaged in a collaborative rehearsal of our scenes, focusing on enhancig the peformance through various elements. A significant aspect of our preparation involved incorparating music to enrich the overall presentation. Wr discovered some older music tracks that we felt would complement our scenes effictively, adding depth and interest to the audience's experience. After rehearsing, we paired with another grouo to exchange feedback on our respective pieces. The constructive criticism we recieved highlighted the need for increased volume in our delivery ensuring that our lines could be heard clearly by the audience. They enjoyed the peformance however, they said i should fully immerse myself into the character. This feedback emphasized the importance of embodying the character completly.

Duologue evaluation

I am writing about my experience of “Bucket” production. The play was written by Adam Bernard in May 2015. Buckets is a play that has themes of family dynamics, personal struggles and the impact of societal pressures. The story revolves around characters facing various challenges in their lives. The main things I learnt throughout this unit are subtext, intention. With the subtext learnt that it's always good to have it because you can understand the text more and get into the character. Also the audience can understand the play more as they watch it. Then with intention i learnt that it’s good to know what you want to show and how you intend on doing it. Even though I didn't really use it well, I think the subtext worked well because in the play there is a lot of subtext in there and it adds a lot of suspense. My whole experience on the project was quite mixed because I felt like I didn't do quite well and I didn't like the way it turned out but it was good on some parts. the main challenges i face throughout the performance was me not being in character because i felt like i was acting like myself. Another challenge was i felt like my facial expressions were not on point and i felt i wasn't putting enough effort into the piece which made me not like it. They were challenging because i don't think the audience liked it that much even though i wasn't seeing them that much i could just feel it. This is how i would do something differently now, i would make sure i immerse myself fully and make sure i get into character. My experiences of the challeneges were quite annoying. Overall what i learnt is i shoudn't take myself seriously. My experience was good and mixed becuase of the outcome but i enjoyed it very much.

For our dance piece obviously before we could do anything to the piece we got given the starter of the dance choreography we added more moves to make it interesting. At first we thought we had to leave it as how we got it but we added moveds to it. We had to choose a song to do the dance so i chose the song pon de replay by Rihanna. The reason why i chose the song was because it was a fun song and i felt it went with the dance. As the weeks went on we kept practicing and adding little moves to the piece. At the beginning i felt like it was a bit boring but we still tried. However, i found a different song called the way i are by Timbaland. the reason why i changed it was because it went with the song more. The challenegs that i faced was i felt we were not quite ready and i wasn't taking it quite seriously because of that. Overall i felt the peformance was quite good but bad as well because of the unseriousness.
