Teaching Math to Kindergarten Students using ABC Mouse and setting goals!!!

What We Need!!!

  • Watch The count to 20 by the Singing Walrus video on Youtube.
  • Basic Math Handouts for the students to complete
  • ABCmouse.com
  • Smartboard to do basic math problems as a group
  • learn The Adding Song by Jools TV on youtube

  1. Anchor- We use math everyday. Learning how to add and subtract is a basic life skill. Show how to add up how many students are in the class.
  2. Task- Each student should be able to count to 20 by the end of the lesson. Each student should be able to add single digit numbers beginning with ones and ending in nines. Make a video with their parents showing skills learned.
  3. Directions-Explain how to use ABCmouse. Watch the videos together and learn the songs to sing in class. Discuss the importance of counting and basic addition and subtraction. Let the students know the due date of when they should finish their path on ABCmouse and when each of the handouts are due.
  4. ABCmouse lets the student, teacher and parent choose a path for the student. Let the student have some inout by choosing the games they play and the lessons they learn.
  5. Student Inquiry-Have each student and their parent find a new song about couunting and math on youtube they can share with the class, Make it personal to the student if they can and share with the entire class.
  6. Coolaboration and Teamwork-Learn the songs as a class. Have students pair up and work some of their ABCmouse lessons in pairs. Go over the addition and subtraction as a group on the smartboard.
  7. Teacher Coaching and Feedback- Work one on one with each student to see where they are in the process. Go over the basics of counting and math with each student individually. work with the student on any areas of concern
  8. Student Reflection- Have each student draw a picture showing what they learned. Give an oral report to the class of what games they liked and how the achieved their goals.Have them shoot a small video to present to the class of them counting to 20 and some basic math skills. Involve the parents to record the video and send so the class can watch. Maybe count the number of stuffed animals on their bed!
  9. Public Presentation-Present their final video to the class. Make each video a speciaal event and offer a small edible reward once the video is viewed.
