Vaccine: Hepatitis B can be prevented by taking a vaccine that is provided once diagnosed. This vaccine is also provided to new born babies within their 24 hours of being born.
There is about 20% infected individuals who are diagnosed with hepatitis B, and the other percent of those do not know they are infected. The survival rate for an infected individual depends on the type of infection that person has. Death from actute hepatitis B is very rare, chronic hepatitis B is about 15%, and there is about 86% of chronic hepatitis B infections.
