28th amendment- Free healthcare
Made by: María Nieto Llorente
Context
The US has always relied in a more or less private healthcare. Most people has a private insurance in order to cover healthcare expenses. During the last few years this issue has been addressed lots of times, since there are strong opinios in favour of free healthcare. During the last century, eventhough we've been closed to obtain free health services, it has always been turned down for various reasons. This problem, affects all the citizens in a more or less direct way, and its consequences are even worse than one could imagine, especially for those unable to get an insurance.
Charts
As we can see in this picture US preventable mortality is quite higher than the one in the UK, which is related to access to free healthcare.
Although life expectancy dependes on many factors such as life style, nutrition, weather... one of the main ones is free access to healthcare
the 28th amendment
Every US citizen has the right to free health care regarldless of their economic status, income or situationship. It would benefit all the society since it would guarantee free access to healthcare and people who can't afford priavate insurance would have the opportunity to go to a doctor without paying which can help to prevent diseases and create a helthier and happier society.
How would it help?
This amendment would help people in need who desperately need to be taken care of, it would help to detect diseases earlier since people won't be afraid to go to the doctor because of its price. It will also help families with low incomes to flourish and not to get in debt.
In the end it will boost the economy (less people in debts), it will help to increase the natality, it will help to prevent diseases earlier, it will create a healthier society and it will help to cease a lot of arguments about this topic.
VERSUS
- It will, taxes will probably increase, but at the end it will boost the economy with more healthy citizens, and more high income families.
- Yes, it's true that now, going to the doctor will be more tedious and slower that before, but private helathcare still exists and can be used to reduce this long waitlist
- As in other western countries the healthcare system will be created alongside each state's needs.
- It will cost a lot of money to the government an to soceity in general.
- The waitlist for going to the doctor will be longer than ever.
- The US is really big and diverse, each states needs its special needs.
