What is Mentoring ? Mentoring is having a professional relationships with an experienced educator that helps to support and guide the novice or less experienced educator (Knight, 2011). Through their collaboration it helps to enhance the teacher's skills by sharing knowledge and experiences. Why Mentoring Is Important? Mentoring creates an environment that helps to build school culture and aligns the staff with the same common goals (Cheliotes, 2018). When mentoring is done effectively, it helps build a collaborative environment that could postively impact teacher retention and student success. What is an Instructional Coach and their Role? An instructional coach is an educational leader that is there to help teachers to strenghten thier instruction within their classrooms, and provide support so teachers can better serve their students (Dovan, 2023). The ultimate goal for instructional coaches is to help equip teachers to be able to know how to work through their own challenges by using specific techniques they have learned.

Collaboration in coaching is one strategy in mentoring that focuses on the coach and teacher working together as a team in order to better the teachers instructional practices. This would include shared planning time, observations, feedback, and self reflection. Collaborative coaching helps build a partnership that fosters a shared commitment to growing professionally, and allows for support to be tailored based on each individual need (Knight, 2011).

Strategy 2 - Reflective Practice
Why Does It Matter? - it is important for growth by allowing educators to coninually assess and impove what they are doing. It also gives the teacher a better understanding of what students need, and helps to guide in future instructional practices.
What is it? - self examination of ones teaching methods and its effictiveness. Educators are able to identify their own strengths, and areas of improvement that could lead to personal growth and increased student learning outcomes (Merriam, 2013).

- Have regular meetings to reflect on practices and teaching expereiences
- Use a reflection journal to write down any observations / personal insights.
- Peer observations and being open to feedback to help grow personally and professionally.
Self-Direction - helps teachers to take ownership of their professional growth. By goal setting and looking at their progress, teachers can be proactive in their instructional practices. Self-Efficacy - helps motivate teachers by allowing them to see their own growth (Cheliotes, 2018). As the teacher see their own progress it will increase their motivation which could want the teacher to excell in the profession.
Provides teachers with ways to be able to self-examine and enhance their effectivness in the classroom. Through ongoing professional development it allows teachers to assess their teaching methods (Merriam, 2013). Teachers can identify their strengths, areas of improvement, and strategies needed to help with student learning.

The relationship helps to lead to open dialogs and sharing learning experiences that could enrich teaching practices (Cheliotes, 2018).
