Who am I?

I am Louis XIV of France, nicknamed the Great or the Sun King. I was king of France from 1643 until my death in 1715.My reign, 72 years and 110 days, is the longest in history. My hobbies were hunting and gambling. I set trends in fashion with my clothing and hairstyles.

Important things I did as king

I placed France as the first European power of its time. I represented the zenith of French absolutism and I developed an energy of diplomatic activity. I promoted the construction of canals and improvements in infrastructure to facilitate trade.

More importants things I did as a king

I was important during the War of the Spanish Succession and a great protector of the arts. I also moved the court from Paris to Versailles. My wars made the country great, although that created a great economic burden that I tried to solve with taxes, something that caused unrest among the lower classes. In the end absolutism fell. I died from cardiovascular problems and gangrene.

Nickname, curiosities and successor

They call me King of the Sun as a symbol of my reign, as the center of everything, similar to the sun. I was known for my love of extravagance, organizing elaborate banquets and parties. After my death my great-grandson, Louis XV inherited the throne.
