Location

Ireland is an island nation on the westernmost edge of Europe. It is the continent's second largest island (after Great Britain). The Republic of Ireland occupies 80 percent of this landmass, while a large chunk of land in the north is part of the United Kingdom.Its major cities are Dublin which is the capital , Cork , Limerick and Galway.

Ireland has many unique geographical features, including its mountains, rivers, peninsulas, and forests. Ireland has many mountains both in the north and in the south, with Carrauntuohill as its highest peak. Ireland's longest river is the Shannon River, at 240 miles long, and Lough Neagh is its largest lake.

Climate

Ireland has a mild temperate oceanic climate, due to the controlling influence of the Atlantic Ocean. Mean annual temperatures generally range between 9°C and 10°C with the higher values in coastal regions. Summer is the warmest season, followed by Autumn, Spring and Winter.

Fought between 1919 and 1921, this was a guerrilla and sectarian conflict involving Irish republicans, Ulster loyalists and British government forces. It brought about the creation of Northern Ireland, which remained part of the United Kingdom, and the Irish Free State, which would later become the Republic of Ireland.

The Gaelic language in Ireland – Gaeilge, or Irish as it’s known locally – is a Celtic language and one of “the oldest and most historic written languages in the world.English remains the primary language on the island of Ireland, but in true Irish fashion we’ve put our own twist on it and developed what’s known as Hiberno-English.
