the origins of halloween
The deities of the Celts were natural elements, such as sun, moon and water.

The most important element was the water, because water is life and it separates the world of the living from the world of the dead.
31st October is an important day for the Celts because the year ends.
They believed that during that night the door who separated the world of the living from the world of the dead was open.

People wore terrifying costumes to keep the souls of the dead people away. The irish priests begged for a cake in return of a prayer, which became treat or trick.
Halloween, «all Hallows'eve» coincided with the festival of Samhain, the beginning of the Celtic year.
The year was divided into two parts, one bright and one dark. It's strange to think that the beginning of the new year coincided with the dark and sterile part.
The fire was considered sacred because the priests distributed it to the population and they had to protect it. They put it in scary pumpkins to scare away bad spirits
