Place Value
Value represented by a digit in a number on the basis of its position in the number.
Hundredth
The second place to the right of the decimal point. One of 100 equal parts of a whole. Written as: 0.01 or 1/100
power
Represents the repeated multiplication of a number or integer. EX. 6^3 (6 to the power of 3) = 6 x 6 x 6.
Digit
Any of the numerals from 0 to 9, especially when forming part of a number.
thousandth
The third place to the right of the decimal point. One of 1,000 equal parts of a whole. Written as: 0.001 or 1/1,000
Divide
Is repeated subtraction, but in the case of Powers of 10, it means the decimal moves to the left.
Decimal
The fractional portions of whole numbers; they are the numbers that are in between the whole numbers.
base
The number multiplied by itself.
Powers of 10
Refers to the numbers in which the base is 10 and the exponent is an integer.
Tenth
The first place to the right of the decimal. One of 10 equal parts of a whole. Written as: 0.01 or 1/10
exponent
Defines the number of times a number (the base) is multiplied by itself.
Integer
Whole numbers that can be positive, negative, or zero, but cannot be a fraction or a decimal.
