DEFINITIONS

Most human-made objects, except those designed to benefit the ocean, contribute to ocean pollution.

marine life

Source of pollution

Data

Man-made objects impact marine life in various ways. Marine animals often ingest plastic, mistaking it for food, which can ultimately lead to death. Additionally, some chemicals can affect the birth rates of fish or harm the fish themselves.

Data

With man-made objects infiltrating the oceans, fish are affected in various ways that render them inedible. This depletion of a major food source significantly impacts many countries and islands.

Major sources of pollution come from plastic items like bottles or bags. Another source is chemical pollution from big factories near the ocean that cause land base run off.

Data

HOW MUCH DO MAN MADE OBECT AFFECT OUR LANDMASSES?

[NOTE, THE NUMBERS ARE ACCURATE BUT THE GRAPH IS FOR LOOKS]

MAN-MADE OBJECTS THAT HARM THE OCEAN AND HAVE IMPACTS OF THE EARTHS LANDMASSES ARE USUALLY THNGS SUCH AS: PLASTIC WASTE, CHEMICAL POLLUTION, CIGGARETTE BUTTS, AND HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS

+ INFO

ON AVERAGE THERE ARE ABOUT 8 MILLION METRIC TONS OF PLASTIC, BILLIONS OF POUNDS OF CHEMICAL POLLUTANTS, AND 4.9 MILLION BARRELS OF OIL THAT ENTER THE OCEAN EVERY YEAR.

WHEN THESE MAN-MADE OBJECTS ARE AFFECTING THE MARINE ECOSYSTEM CAUSING MORE AND MORE FISH TO DIE.THIS WILL EVENTUALLY WILL START TO AFFECT OUR FOODCHAIN. STARTING WITH THE ANIMALS WHO EAT FISH.

There are so many things in this world that help us humans. But there are nearly 95% of things that us humans have made and help us on a daily basis, but don’t help our oceans. I am only going to use what use on a daily basis as examples to what harm the water. Toothbrushes, phones, clothes, shoes, our food, plastic bags, and our cars. All of those things that we made help us and also kill us. They harm our waters, causing fish to die, causing our food chain to deplete. They cause our waters to become polluted and non-drinkable.

How does man made objects impact the natural processes of Earth's water and water systems?

LONG TERM AFFECTS

The long term affects of these objects that don't help the water could eventually be the cause to our end. according to Global Environmental Health Newsletter "Ocean pollution is a widespread, worsening, and poorly controlled problem that is directly affecting human and ecosystem health,"(Landrigan,2021). If we don't stop this growth of pollution of things that aren't meant to be in the ocean, we will start to show signs and start to suffer from it. Our food system will slowly start to show signs of the end of fish life. There are people in the world that soley eat fish, whether its cultural or health reasons. Even some of our biggest tourist spots in the world involve fish, our aquariums will no longer exist.

A lot of people think about the short term effects from our pollution, like a hurt sea turtle or a trapped marine animal in a net. But what about the times we aren't able to save them? it causes long term affects that affect fish for years. The chemicals can cause harming affects that can affect the repoduction rate of fish.

    • WATER POLLUTION: the release of substances into subsurface groundwater or into lakes, streams, rivers, estuaries, and oceans to the point that the substances interfere with beneficial use of the water or with the natural functioning of ecosystems. In addition to the release of substances, such as chemicals, trash, or microorganisms, water pollution may include the release of energy, in the form of radioactivity or heat, into bodies of water.(NATHANSON, 2024, PARA. 1)
