The prevalence of sleep disorders has become normalized in the 21st century, as increased stress in our daily lives, sedentary lifestyles, physiological changes, and declining mental health impact our ability to unwind at the end of the day. In Lesson 2, we will learn more about sleep training sessions in the Muse app and explore methods of using the Muse device to build healthy, sustainable sleep habits.
Before begining Lesson 2, put on your Muse headband according to the steps outlined in Lesson 1. After the headband is properly fitted, access your Muse app and connect your device to the app. Remember, the Muse device has seven sensors. Each sensor is represented by a geometric icon. All six geometric icons on the screen must be filled in and illuminated indicating each sensor can detect your brain activity.

As you complete sleep sessions with the Muse device, you will benefit from responsive sleep experiences that help train your mind and guide you into a deeper, more restful sleep.

Step 1
Now that your Muse device is connected to the app, tap the "Sleep" icon at the bottom of the screen to view the sleep training programs.
The Muse app dashboard features three main coaching options at the bottom of the screen. Options are categorized according to individual training goals.

Step 2
The Muse sleep training content is comprised of lessons that use the Digital Sleeping Pill method to coach users on improving sleep habits. On the main screen, tap the "Intro to Digital Sleeping Pills" tile. There are four training sessions in this section. In the next step, you'll learn how to access more information about the Digital Sleeping Pill method.
Begin with the lessons in the Intro to Digital Sleeping Pills section.

Now that you are on the Digital Sleeping Pills screen, tap on each of the green downward facing arrows to read the tips provided and learn more about the Digital Sleeping Pill method.

On the Journeys main screen, tap on any of the themed location tiles to begin your guided sleep experience.
Step 4
After completing Intro to Digital Sleeping Pills, you will understand the method Muse utilizes for sleep training sessions: Digital Sleeping Pills (DSP). The DSP method is implemented across all sleep experiences. Let's become familiar with three additional sleep experiences offered on the app:
- Journeys
- Soundscapes
- Guidances
Tap on the Journeys tile to experience guided stories set in remote locations.
Each sleep experience features a coach to guide users through the sleep journeys, sounds naturally occuring in nature, and some feature the addition of orchestral instruments.

Soundscapes
Step 5
Soundscapes are sleep experiences that use soothing sounds to evoke calm, peace, and serenity while coaching users through a wind-down routine.
Select the amount of time you want your session to last by taping on the corresponding circle. Then tap "Next."
Tap on the Soundscapes tile to explore these immersive, unguided sleep experiences.
From the Soundscapes main screen, tap on the sound experience of your choice for sleep training.

Tap on "Start Session" to begin.
Guidances
Step 6
On the Guidances main screen, tap on any of the guided meditation sessions to begin your experience. Each session features a different meditation coach.
Guidances are the third group of sleep experiences. In Guidances, you will be coached by guides through several meditation exercises constructed to facilitate sleep.
Each session features themed meditations and alternating coaches.
Tap on the Guidances tile to explore guided meditations.
