1. THE WEATHER: What's the weather like?

It's COOL It's CHILLY It's COLD It's FREEZING It's BELOW ZERO

There's A BREEZE (a light wind) It's WINDY

It's MILD It's WARM It's HOT It's BOILING / SCORCHING

It's FOGGY (FOG is thicker and can be found in towns and in the country) It's MISTY (MIST isn't usually very thick and often happens in the mountains or near the sea) There's SMOG (SMOG is caused by pollution and usually happens in big cities)

It's HUMID (warm and wet but not raining) It's DAMP ( cold and slightly wet) It's DRIZZLING (raining lightly) It's RAINING / WET There're SHOWERS (raining intermittently) It's POURING (raining a lot)

3. Adjectives to describe weather

Read the following weather forecast and note down useful collocations (adjective + noun) to describe weather conditions

In the north of England and Scotland it will be very cold, with strong winds and heavy, close to torrential rain. There will also be thick fog in the hills and near the coast, though it should clear by midday. Driving will be dangerous as the roads will be icy. However, the south of England and the Midlands will have clear skies and it will be bright and sunny, though the temperature will still be quite low. Over the next few days the weather will be changeable, with some showers, but occasional sunny spells. It should become more settled over the weekend.
