On December 12, 1531 La Virgen appeared in front of Juan Diego in Tepeyac. She sent him to tell the Bishop to build a church in Tepeyac, but when he went the Bishop dismissed him. La Virgen Maria appeared once more and told him to collect flowers. Once he did so he took them back to the Bishop and they left behind her image on his coat, a miracle. A church was built in Tepeyac in her honor, the Basilica de Guadalupe.
