Sea Shanty/Poem
Another option is to create your own sea shanty. Earlier in the unit, you learned that these songs were sung by sailors as entertainment and motivation to continue on their long journeys. !
(Virtual) Paper Bag
The paper bag assignment focuses on theme and symbolism. The idea is that your "paper bag" represents a specific theme from the book, and your job is to find items that fit within that theme.
Write a Script!
Have you thought about what this book would look like as a movie? Put yourself in the director's chair and reimagine a chapter of the story as a script. What would the characters actually say? What would the scene look like?
Use this Genially to help you choose, create, and save your concluding project for the novel: The Finest Hours! Choose ONE of the following projects and set sail!

Step 1: Choose a theme from The Finest Hours . You may choose from the list on the template or write your own. Remember, a theme is a generalized lesson about life we can learn from the story. Step 2: Think of three objects/things that REPRESENT that theme. (i.e. American Flag represents Freedom) Step 3: Find images of those three objects/things. Step 4: Add all those components into the Paper Bag Template and explain.

Step 1: Decide if your song/poem is going to be about a specific chapter or the whole book. Step 2: Make sure your poem has END RHYME. Since Shanties are usually sung, you should have rhyming to give it that sing-song feel. Step 3: Each Verse and the Chorus need to be 4 lines each MINIMUM (that's 12 lines total) Step 4: You should also use at least one example of PERSONIFICATION (non-human object given human-like qualities; the wind whispered) Step 5: Recording an audio version is OPTIONAL, but a lot more fun :)
