Absolute Value Equations

Absolute value measures the distance of a number from zero on the number line.

|-3| = 3

|3| = 3

Example 1:

x = 5 or x = -1

x = 5 or x = -5

It translates to:

|x - 2| = 3

Absolute value equations often take the form |x| = a, where a≥0.

|x| = 5

x=5;-5

x=5;-1
