Daylight Savings Time
Daylight Saving Time (DST) connects to the Earth's tilt because the tilt of the Earth affects how much sunlight different parts of the planet get throughout the year. Here's how it works: The Earth is tilted at an angle (about 23.5 degrees), so as it orbits the Sun, different parts of the Earth get more or less sunlight depending on the time of year. During the summer months, the part of the Earth that is tilted toward the Sun gets more daylight, and during the winter months, it gets less. Daylight Saving Time was created to take advantage of the extra daylight during the summer. By moving the clocks forward one hour in spring, people can enjoy more daylight in the evening and use less artificial light. This happens when the days are naturally longer because of the Earth’s tilt. When fall comes, and the Earth tilts away from the Sun again, we move the clocks back to standard time because the days become shorter. This allows us to better match our daily schedules with the amount of daylight available during the shorter days of winter.
