Different Types of Stem cells

Take Notes

Erythroid STEM Cells

In Bone Marrow

This is the formation of red blood cells (Erythrocytes.)

Macrophages

contextualize your topic

Starts in the bone marrow, this is a mononuclear phagocyte stem cell, goes into a monocyte (in tissue)

Lymphoid Stem Cells

Hematopoietic stem cells , Lymphoid stem cells, which turn into B(lymphocytes) that mature in bone marrow and T(lymphocytes) which mature in thymus

Mylenoid Stem Cells

Basophils-a type of white blood cell that are part of the immune system and play a key role in allergic reactions and parasitic infections Eosinphils- a type of white blood cell that help the body fight infections and allergens, and are part of the immune system's response to inflammation Neutrophils- a type of white blood cell that are part of the immune system and help the body fight infection

Interleukins carry messages between leukocytes and tissues that form blood cells. Interferons are chemicals that primarily protect cells from viral invasion. tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a type of cytokine, was first discovered, it showed promise as a means of shrinking tumors. Colony-stimulating factors (CSFs) are cytokines that prompt the bone marrow to produce, mature, and promote the functions of blood cells.

Cytokines

Cytokines are chemical messengers released by lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages. There are many subgroups of cytokines, including interleukins, interferons, tumor necrosis factor, and colony-stimulating factors.

CONCLUSION

Antibody: a blood protein produced in response to and counteracting a specific antigen. Antibodies combine chemically with substances which the body recognizes as alien, such as bacteria, viruses, and foreign substances in the blood. Antigen: a toxin or other foreign substance which induces an immune response in the body, especially the production of antibodies.

The immune system is a collection of specialized white blood cells and lymphoid tissues that maintain immunocompetence, the ability to cooperatively protect a person from external invaders and the body’s own altered cells.

How would you respond to a friend who tells you that their sister has an immune disorder and asks what this means? Discuss the benefit of obtaining immunizations for common childhood diseases. If someone you know has been exposed to hepatitis B, what would you recommend to prevent a subsequent infection? Why are the tonsils and adenoids not being removed as aggressively as they were in the past?
