Lesson 4 of 7
Navigating within a Course
Jason Belt
In this lesson, we will learn the essential navigationfeatures of the LMS Course Player.
Course Syllabus
The Course Syllabus is a player list much like other media players you may have used. Each lesson within thecourse is listed and a left click on the lesson itself will bring up the media to be played.
Each course syllabus will show progress with labels as pictured here...
Some courses come with prerequisites indicated by the label and progress will be achieved upon passing each of
the required courses.
Navigation bar
Clicking here is a course player embedded, course navigation feature.
A learner will be able to click the drop down and navigate with in the course, back to the learning plan, and then
back to the lesson they were on originally.
Screen settings
Using the 3 screen settings buttons here will enable you to;
Set the playback qualityPop out the content into picture and pictureGo full screen with the media and cover the entire computer screen
Play, Pause, and Media Navigation
The media navigation buttons function similarly to those found in any standard media player. To start the media, simply click the play icon. You can then pause, or navigate forward and backward within the media.
The volume controls allow you to adjust the sound level by sliding the control left to decrease the volume or right
to increase it.
Additionally, clicking the speaker icon will toggle the media's mute and unmute settings.
Lesson navigation + full screen
These three buttons enable the learner to click from one lesson to the next within the course and even expandthe player window to full screen if a larger player window is needed.

THE HOMEPAGE & MENU
FINDING THE RIGHT CONTENT
LET'S FILTER
The homepage is your key to finding content in the platform. While different users have differentversions of the homepage (and menu) they are all geared toward the same purpose:Identifying any deadlines or upcoming events for your trainingStarting and completing the content you are enrolled inFinding new content that may be relevant to you
In each version of the home page, the layout is the same. Any important deadlines, events, or activitieswill be at the top. That is followed by your enrolled content; courses that you or a trainer from your teamhave assigned to you. After getting through your enrolled courses and learning plans, the rest of thehome page is for exploring what the platform has to offer. Each of these items also have dedicated pages in the menu. If you want to find upcoming deadlines or events, look for "My Calendar" or "My Activities". To see yourenrolled content, go to the "My Courses & Learning Plans" page. Finally, to explore new content
offerings use "Course Catalog" or "All Channels".
THE HOMEPAGE & MENU
FINDING THE RIGHT CONTENT
LET'S FILTER
While you are exploring the platform, there are a few things you can do to find the course or learningplan you are looking for. The first, and hopefully most apparent, is the search bar at the top of the LMSwindow. This search bar is always available from any page within the platform.
THE HOMEPAGE & MENU
FINDING THE RIGHT CONTENT
LET'S FILTER
The second way to find what you are looking for is available within any of the coursebrowsers available on the homepage or within the catalog or channel pages, and that is
filtering. As you can see, there are options to filter, search, and sort content in all of the enrolledcontent. There are tons of filter options, let's highlight a few of the key filters that may be
the most useful:
Is the content you are looking for a Learning Plan, E-learning course,
Type
or Instructor-led training?
EnrollmentStatus
Filter courses or learning plans by what you have completed, have in
progress or haven't started.
Deadline
Look for content with deadlines within the given timeframes
The filter options are not one size fits all. Feel free to mix and match different filters toeither find the specific content you want or hide the content you don't want at the
moment.
