As a Syndicate Lead, you will be one of the biggest influences on the participants in your syndicate and force, throughout Police Now Academy and their early careers. They are keen, smart, motivated, and impressionable as new officers. It is therefore vital that each Syndicate Lead and every Police Now staff member is a positive role model and leader for all participants throughout the academy, whether on or off duty. This is not always easy when the pressure is on, but nothing is more essential to the participants' success. For most participants, the academy is the first time they will work closely with an operational police officer, so it is crucial that you consistently role model the high standards that Police Now and your own force expect throughout the academy. As a Syndicate Lead, you play such an influential role in the participants' experience and success. The quality of the Syndicate Lead is the single biggest factor affecting the readiness and confidence of the participants that your force will receive. It cannot be stressed enough that this is the most crucial role in academy. At Police Now, we want the very best leaders to work as Syndicate Leads and expect the very highest standards. Participants and partner forces demand it , the success of the academy relies on it and based on our selection process, we're confident that you wouldn't want it any other way. So, congratulations' on being offered the role and we are looking forward to working with you. The purpose of this guide is to provide you with an overview of what to expect in the coming months and what you can look forward to at the academy.

Your Expertise
Prior to the Syndicate Lead Course you will receive a questionnaire to determine your areas of expertise. We try and allocate sessions to Syndicate Leads according to these, although this cannot be guaranteed. The list of topic areas will be made available via the Syndicate Lead lesson allocation survey. This survey will be released after Syndicate Lead Induction. Whole Cohort Sessions The theoretical sessions will be delivered as a whole cohort. You'll have a number of these allocated to you over the duration of the academy, which will be distributed as evenly as possible across Syndicate Leads. Stream Taught Sessions These sessions will tend to be more dynamic or out of the classroom sessions which will be taught in larger groups of around 50 participants. You may be allocated some of these sessions based on your areas of interest or expertise. Paired Syndicate Sessions You will be teaching practical sessions in paired syndicates. This means you will have the chance to be the lead facilitator and supporting facilitator when practising operational skills. Syndicate Sessions Each day you will have time with your syndicate, and you will have a small number of syndicate taught sessions (please note, you may be paired up with another syndicate during syndicate time). You may also have a small number of sessions which are force specific which you deliver to your group.

Police Now takes the security of participants and staff very seriously, therefore, the policies we develop are rooted in this core principle. As Syndicate Leads you are expected to adhere to and role model all policies at all times. Prior to Feburary 2025 we will share all policies relevant to the academy and programme for you to review, this will be followed by a form which will ask you to sign against the fact you have read and agreed to each of these individual policies. For the time being, below you will find some key policies which will ask you to take a few key actions in order to ensure you are set up on our travel and expense systems. Additional policies will be added for you to read through, but you will be notified when this happens. Please take the time to read these carefully ahead of any events (induction or SLC) and email NDP-Team@policenow.org.uk if you have any questions.
