Adriana Lima's career began by chance, when she accompanied her friend to a modeling competition. At the age of 15 she won the Ford Supermodel of Brazil, later coming second in the same international competition. She moved to New York, signing a contract with the Elite Model Management agency, and appeared in numerous international fashion magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire and GQ. Her debut on the catwalks was for Anna Sui's spring/summer collection, during New York Fashion Week, in 1997. Since then she has walked the runway for designers such as Vera Wang, Miu Miu, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, Victoria's Secret, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Givenchy, Versace, Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs and many others. In 2000 she became the face of Guess?, while the following year she was the testimonial of Armani jeans.
