I researched how social anxiety affects children comparitively to college students. Social anxiety disorder is most often diagnosed at younger age, most people develop SAD before they turn 20.

Introduction

x

Treatments for childhood social anxiety could include socail skills trainng, however for college age individuals it could include psychotherapy and medications

Treatments

x

Children: Often co-occurs with other childhood disorders, such as ADHD or learning disabilitiesAdults: Frequently associated with other mental health conditions, like depression or generalized anxiety disorder

Other Mental Health Conditions

x

In children it is more likely to manifest in school settings or social activities and may be more situational. In college students it is more likely to affect school, work, and personal relationships

Location

x

It is important to recognize the symptoms in both children and adults because SAD can progress overtime and become chronic, affecting healhty development

Importance

x

Although it is more likely for an individual to develop SAD between the ages of 8 and 15, during college interpersonal communication becomes increasingly important which can trigger SAD

Development

x

It is important for mental health providers to understand the difference in social anxiety between different ages so that as someone grows up they are able to recognize that their anxiety may be manifesting in different ways, it is also important for them to understand how someone may develop social anxiety later on in life.

WHY THIS MATTERS

x

In both children and college students SAD is most often not the result of inadequate social skills, but a belief that they do not have proper social skills

Early Stages

Players start with a token - which represents each of them - in the initial square and take turns rolling the die. The tokens move according to the numbering on the board, in ascending order. If, at the end of a move, a player lands on a square where a ladder begins, they move up it to the square where it ends. If, on the other hand, they land on a square where a snake's tail begins, they move down it to the square where its head ends. Some squares have facts about the difference in social anxiety that is seen in children and college students.Sources:Cartwright-Hatton, S., Tschernitz, N., & Gomersall, H.
