The Herb Train Escape

Climb Aboard!

Agents... In preparation for one of our virtual games, Escape the Spymistress, we need to do some quick recon back to the time of the Civil War. We've detected a change to the timeline and we think that it might have some sort of a connection with Abraham Lincoln. We are going to send you back in time to the night of February 2nd, 1861. A train is on route from Pennsylvania to Baltimore, Maryland well after midnight. We know from previous scouting trips that there is very little movement onboard...which will be the perfect cover for your trip back in time. Your mission is to sneak from train car to train car and gather evidence of what the change is to the timeline. Can you discover the clues and get off the train before being discovered?

What you need to Know: This mission is intended to be a quick introduction to the style of the escape. While the crate itself is stuffed with objects and correspondence which you will use to advance through the adventures, you will need to input the solutions to the puzzles into our website to advance the plot. For this adventure, you will need to examine the pictures and words on the screen carefully to solve the puzzles. When you think you have a solution, click the link under the "Objective" and input the password. If you need a hint, you may use the hint system below each puzzle... but try to solve the missions on your own. There is no set time for this escape, but feel free to set a timer on your phone and compare your time with whoever is playing to see who escaped the fastest! Good luck!

You appear in a clearing next to some railroad tracks...empty and forlorn in the midnight air. It's hard to even imagine a train would be traveling along the track at this hour... but it is immediately clear that something is amiss. At your feet is a lantern, illuminating a silver object in the grass. As you pick it up to examine it more closely, you hear the rumble of the dark train as it rolls into view. Knowing there is not much time, you hop onto the very last car and try to open the door before you are noticed. It is locked, with a very strange keyhole. A note next to the door gets your attention. Perhaps if you can figure out the meaning of this, you will be able to unlock the door in the "Objective" below. Remember to use your hints if you are stuck.
