This is a false friend for Spanish speakers. It does not mean “now” or “at the present moment”. It means “in fact” and is used to emphasise a comment or to say that something is really true. We’re still waiting for John. after the subject in negative and interrogative sentences: I still can’t find Kay’s phone number. We were near the front of the queue but we still didn’t get tickets for the concert. I still haven’t finished. Are you still teaching in Michigan? Can you still play the piano? Do you still believe in ghosts? Still is more emphatic than yet. Still is also an adjective that means “not moving”: Keep your head still. It was a still, calm evening.
