The Wendigo

Description

The wendigo is a mythical creature associated to winter. It is large, as tall as a tree like 3,5 or 4 meters with long body members. It has a lipless mouth with jagged teeth and black eyes. Its breath is a strange hiss and its footprints are full of blood. It’s skeletal. Most of the time, it’s a mix between a deer and a human. It’s nasty and cannibal. It eats every men, women or even children if they are in its territory or he can possessed someone and this person will turn into a Wendigo.

There is a famous fable about this creature that is told all over the USA :

Story

It’s the story of a father who went outside looking for food for his family after a storm. The father was a warrior. He took with him a knife and a spear which he kept close to him. He was walking through the wood looking for an animal to eat, until he heard a strange hissing noise and saw blood-soaked footprints in the snow. At that moment, he knew a Wendigo was looking at him. He learned about the Wendigos at his father’s knee. A Wendigo leapt out at him, so the warrior dove to one side, rolling into the snow and threw the spear which stuck in the creature’s chest, it shooked. Meanwhile, the warrior hid behind a small tree. When the Wendigo found him, the warrior stabbed its eye with the knife to its brain cavity. The Wendigo died and disappeared. The father came home with a fox he had killed on the way of coming back.
