Relief Prints

Prints created by carving designs and images out of a matrix.
1670 CE

Ukiyo-e wood blocki prints were created in Japan. These prints depicted scenes of everyday life and nature.

SCULPTURE

You can incorporate texture into a sculpture by carving lines and patterns.

STENCIL OR SCREENPRINTING
  • Requires the use of a screen.
  • Design is created by making a negative stencil.
  • The ink will pass through and print through the holes of the stencil.
Color
  • You can use values of color to create patterns and depth.
  • If you think back to the gravel, you can see the shapes of that pattern because of the darker gray shadows under the rocks, and the highlights of the object.
INTAGLIO/ ETCHING

Lines are carved into the surface to create design.Then you apply ink into the lines and use high pressure to press design onto the paper.
