Sir Robert peel who was later prime minister of england, formed what people have called the world's first modern police force. Members of the metropolitan police were dubbed bobbies. London's bobbies were based on 2 principles, the belief that they could discourage crime, and the practice of preventive patrol. They patrolled the streets by walking on them. Their uniforms resembled military style. The new police were not immediately accepted, some people saw them as an occupying army and had open battles between police and citizens.

the frontier/ kansas expiriment
The frontier was a backwoods area where many outlaws and bandits felt safe. Only the bravest people tried to police the frontier.
prohibition and police corruption
There was a dark period in America for a long time and it started when they banned all forms of alcoholic beverages, until they stopped that in 1933, most countries were rife with criminal activity. But in 1931 Wickersham commission called the national commission on law observance and said that he realized that prohibition was unenforceable and said it carried a great potential for police corruption.

the bow street runners
The bow street runners were an early english police unit formed under the leadership of henry fielding, magistrate of the bow street region of london. In the early 1800’s a large criminal organization formed and was led by a guy named Jonathan wild. He ran an operation with a group of robbers, thieves and burglars. In feb 1725 wild was arrested for the charges of being a confederate with great numbers of highwaymen, pickpockets, housebreakers, shoplifters, and other thieves and for being the head director of all these people. The bow street runners are still famous for their police work in catching these criminals today. (the bow street runners were the cops that catches the bad people)
