On December 15th, 2018, my parents and I took a train from Huelva to Madrid. That morning we packed our suitcases and we left home to go to the Huelva’s train station. The train set off at 10:30 a.m. and the journey lasted 4 hours and a half more or less, so we arrived in Madrid at lunchtime.

When we had to come back from Madrid, I was so sad since I had enjoyed the trip so much. However, when I get on the train Mum and Dad began trying to entertain me and make the journey more tolerable. When we reached Huelva, we were really tired so we got home and had a lengthy nap.

Catalonia, the hotel in which we stayed, was completely incredible. It was located in Gran Via and, as you can imagine, it had such amazing views of the city. The bedroom was really welcoming and cozy. It was decorated with wood furniture and gold decorative items that gave the bedroom an old but elegant look. Regardless of the rooms, the whole hotel was very classy. It had SPA, swimming pool, different restaurants and lots of different areas to rest, chill out and be warm after a cold day around the city.

DAY 1

DAY 2

DAY 3

When we arrived at the hotel for the first time it was about 3 p.m. and my parents decided to stay in the hotel instead of going for a walk to look for a restaurant in which we could eat. So, we had lunch at the hotel restaurant. The food was tasty and fresh and the bar was so comfortable and intimate. That night, after visiting La Puerta del Sol, we took a street full of various restaurants and pubs. We saw a little tavern with ham and cheese in the store window, so we got in and surprisingly we had an amazing dinner there.

On the second day we went to a cute café called Círculo de Bellas Artes to have breakfast, and then we took a taxi to go to the zoo. We ate there in a roasted chicken specialized restaurant and then we continued visiting the zoo until the afternoon. Then we returned to the hotel and we got ready to see La Plaza Mayor and all the Christmas stalls. After this little excursion, we searched for a restaurant and we ended up eating dinner in a lovely restaurant which served delicious Spanish food.

On Sunday, we had breakfast in a charming café near the hotel, since we had to pack our suitcases and bags to go to the Atocha’s train station. Since our train was setting off at around 4:30 p.m. we had lunch in a restaurant located in the surroundings of the station. Afterwards, we took our train and went back home.

ITINERARY

-THINGS WE DID-

In my opinion, watching The Lion King Musical is a thing that you must experience at least once in your life. The way the actors and actresses play their character, the scenery, the prop and the music make you feel enraptured and fascinated by the Sabana’s vibe. Appreciating this musical was one of the best things I could do on this trip and it’s an obvious recommendation.

Although it isn’t comparable to the Lion King Musical, if you want to spend a relaxed but interesting day, it’s such a great idea to visit the zoo. There you can admire a lot of different species imported from around the world. In addition, you don’t have to leave the zoo to eat lunch, because it has a wide range of restaurants with lots of types of food such as: american, indian, chinese and so on.

Visiting the Waxworks Museum is another activity that you can do when you don’t really know what to do in Madrid. I can describe my experience as a bit traumatizing. It isn’t anything related to the museum, but I’ve always been a little fearful and when I got inside the museum and I saw all those statues all my excitement disappeared immediately. However, I had a really good time there and it ended up being an entertaining and enjoyable experience.

When we weren’t doing any arranged activities, my parents and I used to go for walks around the city center to see the Christmas lights, the snow and the little stalls with Christmas decorations. One of those nights when we were visiting stalls, local shops and so on, we heard some music in the distance, so we followed it and we ended up watching “Cortylandia”. Cortylandia is a children’s show in which some characters sing and dance on a stage next to El Corte Inglés.

In my view, going to Madrid at Christmas is a lovely trip. I visited extraordinary places and I saw things that I have never seen before. Keeping in mind that it isn’t that far and is kind of affordable, in my personal opinion I’d highly recommend this trip if you don’t know where to go on your next holiday.
