Here is a video created for a student audience that provides a quick explaination of what the CARE Program is and how the CARE Program supports them in their academic and personal journey. A shareable link will provided in the near future!
We can prevent students having to visit multiple offices if we share information about the work we are doing with students
A great title
Pose a question or problem that makes the class think; it is the essential ingredient to maintain their attention. It is usually posed at the beginning of the topic to encourage critical thinking and participation.
Visual content is a cross-cutting and universal language, like music. We are able to understand images from millions of years ago, even from other cultures.
With this function... You can add additional content that excites the brains of your students: videos, images, links, interactivity... Whatever you want!

We better capture visual content. This type of content is associated with psychological mechanisms.
Things enter through the eyes, the first image is what counts. We associate visual content with emotions.
care is here to help
CARE is not punitive and students are not "in trouble" when they are referred. The CARE Program does use the same case management software as our Conduct office- so some of the language- such as "incident report" is used on the Guardian page. We are not able to change this (yet), but continue to work with the developers to improve. Remember, if you're ever unsure, make a referral to CARE! We can help connect the student to whichever supports they may need.
You may submit a CARE Referral if a student needs support or you have supported the student with...
- Attendance
- Missing appointments/meetings
- Missed assignments/exams/deadlines, etc.
- Changes to course performance
- Grades
- School/life balance (employment, campus involvement, teams, orgs, etc.)
- General Academic/Social concern

Addresses student concern by utilizing ...exploration ...advocacy ...connection to resources ...navigating University processes ...referal to other University areas
The CARE Program can provide letters of support for appeals in cases like financial aid, academic dismissal, or scholarships if a student's challenges have been documented. This service is only available when details are recorded throughout the process

The CARE Program is here for every student! Even the ones you are working with and supporting!
STEP TWO: Outreach The CARE Program reaches out the student to invite them to schedule a meeting in person, via Zoom, or over the telephone. *CARE cannot mandate students to respond!
The non-emergency number for the University Police is 570-422-3064
When to REfer
CARE will accept and triage referrals for all student concerns. *Emergencies- such as needing an ambulance, imminent violence or threats of violence, or criminal activity should be reported to the appropriate emergency services FIRST. A CARE referral should be submitted after the police, 911, or other emergency services are contacted.
The CARE Program receives referrals for a variety of student concerns- ranging from (but not limited to) students needing textbooks, experiencing loss, mental health, or violence. If a student is experiencing a personal challenge or exhibiting a behavior- please do the referral. If the referral needs to go to a different area, the CARE Program can navigate the referral to the appropriate office. IF you are not sure if you should submit a referral (or document work that you have completed with a student), call a CARE program member to discuss! If a student is in mortal danger or experiencing a health emergency please contact the appropriate emergency services FIRST and then complete a CARE referral so the CARE Team can follow up with the student.
Refer What?
With this function... You can add additional content that excites the brains of your students: videos, images, links, interactivity... Whatever you want!
