Buckingham Palace, located in the heart of Westminster in London, is the official residence of the sovereign of the United Kingdom, currently King Charles III. When people refer to "Buckingham Palace" or simply "The Palace," they are talking about not just the building, but everything related to the court and the royal family. In addition to being the king's home, the palace serves as the venue for many public ceremonies, such as royal receptions and visits from heads of state. It is also a must-visit destination for tourists, famous worldwide for the Changing of the Guard. But Buckingham Palace represents much more: it is a symbol that has accompanied the British people through moments of joy and sadness throughout history. Buckingham Palace is the current residence of King Charles III.The name comes from the Duke of Buckingham and Normandy, John Sheffield, who decided to build the structure as his country house in 1703. At that time, the area didn’t yet include what we know today as Westminster. In 1762, however, the residence was sold to King George III, who transformed it into a private home for the royal family, particularly for his wife, Queen Charlotte.Queen Charlotte passed away in 1818, and just two years later, King George III also died. His son, George IV, then decided to turn the residence into a proper royal palace. The architect John Nash was tasked with designing a grand palace, centering on Buckingham House and creating a large square courtyard. The façade was built with Bath stone in a neoclassical style. After George IV's death, his successor, King William IV, continued the project, hiring another architect who followed Nash’s original vision but created a simpler, more understated building. Although the royals hosted guests in the newly completed state rooms, they never actually lived in the palace, choosing instead to remain at Clarence House, their London residence built before they ascended to the throne.

With Queen Victoria ascending the throne in 1837, Buckingham Palace became the royal residence, though it faced significant structural issues, including malfunctioning chimneys and negligent staff. After her marriage to Prince Albert in 1840, he worked to resolve these problems and improve the palace. The public façade was built following their marriage, and the palace became a hub for music, dance, and lavish events. However, after Albert's death, Victoria withdrew from public life, leading to the palace's decline. In 1901, King Edward VII revitalized Buckingham Palace, restoring its grandeur and hosting lavish events once again. The interior was redecorated in the Belle Époque style. The final construction changes were made during King George V's reign, including a new façade designed by Sir Aston Webb to complement the Queen Victoria monument at the entrance

ingham Palace, the beloved residence of King George V and Queen Mary, came through World War I relatively unscathed, though many valuable items were relocated to Windsor Castle for safety. Unfortunately, during World War II, the palace faced numerous bombings, resulting in significant damage. Thankfully, it was restored to its former magnificence after the war.Today, the palace is perhaps best known for the iconic Changing of the Guard ceremony. This vibrant event takes place daily at 11:30 AM from April to late July, and on alternate days for the rest of the year, depending on the weather. The ceremony features a lively fanfare that accompanies the new guards as they march down the avenue, and it unfolds in the courtyard, lasting about 40 minutes. If you’re planning a visit, you can easily reach Buckingham Palace via the London Metro, with Green Park station serving three lines: Piccadilly, Victoria, and Jubilee. Tickets for tours can be conveniently purchased online at the Royal Collection website, and visitors can expect to spend around 2 to 2.5 hours exploring the stunning interior of the palace.
