THe negatives aspects of social media
The Jed Foundation
"While people of any age can be affected by social comparison on social media, adolescents (13 – 18) and young adults (19-24) are particularly vulnerable to the negative effects. The main reason for this is how social media affects the forming of our identity. Our identity is formed by creating one that’s unique and “stands out”, while also creating one that fits in with a social group and allows us to feel like we belong."

"Children and adolescents in the United States (US) are having relationships with their screens at younger ages than ever before, as levels of screen exposure have surged since the start of the COVID pandemic. Per recent estimates, children 8–12 years spend four to six hours a day on their devices, increasing to nine hours per day for teenagers. Against this backdrop, there are mounting concerns about the potential negative impacts that screen exposure is having on young people with regards to mental health consequences. Concern has also been raised about the potential for screen “addiction” or social media “addiction.”"
