Narrator (1): Zola was a curious girl who loved surprises. She was turning ten soon and knew her dad had hidden her birthday present. Zola: (excited) “I have to find my present!” Narrator (2): Every day after school, Zola searched her house. One day, she looked in her dad’s closet.
Zola: (thinking) “Maybe it’s here!” Narrator (3): She stood on her tip-toes and felt something hard behind the clothes. Zola: (happy) “This must be my present!” Narrator (4): Zola climbed up and found a dusty old box marked, “Don’s Private Property…DO NOT TOUCH.”
Zola: (curious) “I have to see what’s inside!” Narrator (5): Inside the box, she found old notebooks. The first one was titled, “Donny’s Secret Plans to Take Over the World.” Zola: (laughing) “Who is Donny?”
Narrator (6): Zola read about her dad’s childhood plans to be a superhero and clean the environment. Zola: (amused) “My dad wanted to save the world!”
Zola: (nervous) “I’m sorry, Dad. I was looking for my present and found these notebooks.”
Narrator (7): She was so engrossed that she didn’t hear her dad come home. Dad: (surprised) “What are you doing, Zola?” Narrator (8): Zola was scared. She thought her dad would be mad.
Narrator (9): Her dad sat next to her and started reading the notebooks. Dad: (laughing) “I’m not mad, Zola. I forgot I had these.” Narrator (10): They spent the next two weeks reading the notebooks together at dinner.
Zola: (determined) “One day, I’ll share it with my kids too!”
Narrator (10): They spent the next two weeks reading the notebooks together at dinner. Zola: (happy) “I’m going to keep my own writer’s notebook now!” Narrator (1): Zola learned the importance of keeping a writer’s notebook and decided to make hers special.
