This is a ticket to a Brave New Workshop improv show in Minneapolis at the Dudley Riggs Theater.

This is Larson Hall. Deborah may be including this image because it's where she staying. Additionally, Larson was relatively new during this time, being constructed in 1964. The dorm was orginally housed only female students.

Students in Rolvaag searching through library records to find materials. This image, much like the others in the spread, seem to come from newspapers, most likely the Olaf Messenger.

This side of the spread is striking in that it shifts from exterior buildings to interiors, focusing of the studying student. In conjunction with the left side, there is almost a feeling of winter loneliness -- cold exteriors and focused students in the dark. But still, the other ephemera give a life to the spread, contrasting the solitrary studying with friends and activities. The left and right side ultimately create a stark divide between interior and exterior, grand and personal, and loneliness and friendship.

Reflecting on the use of photography in this spread, I was struck by the importance of newspaper and magazine within this spread. I never realized how accessible these forms of information make certain images, and it's fascinating how others can take these pictures and reorganize them in a way that makes them personal and expressive in a new way. Especially as a college student in the 70s, it would have been difficult to find time to take such a variety of photographs.

I am struck by the power that multi-media scrapbooks can have in giving insight and life to someone's life/ past. Sometimes, photographs by themselves can be too uniform, stiff, and less alive, but when combined with ephemera and notes, one can almost start assembling the individual. And of course, what the scrapbooker deems important and how they organize also reveals a lot about what they value and how they think.

This program includes the cast and performances for a show of movie and music related pieces. It took place during "Winter Sports Weekend," where it seems that winter sport related clubs (in this case the skating club) would host activities during this time.

Deborah (class of 1974) studied nursing at St. Olaf. She also donated her gym suit and nurse's hat. Nancy is Deborah's roommate. The scrapbook is full of these little notes and interactions between them, most of them with a playful and loving spirit.

The left side of the spread includes many "exterior" elements of St. Olaf. This comes in the form of literal photographs of the exterior of buildings around campus, including Larson and Buntrock, but also activities outside of campus, evident in the Brave New Workshop ticket stub.

The "R" rating was introduced in 1968, so it had only been out 3 years at this point.Because there is this discretion, it seems that the show had mature themes, but it was open to the public, otherwise they probably would not have included this. Still, this may have just been included to acknowledge the new rating system, especially because the show was revolved around movies.
