Free Money

Having a clear understanding of your library vision, being realisitc, and working with the budget you're given usually leaves room for seeking additional funding. Anderson breaks down how to best source your library's community and grant writing prospects to finding the best way to create your dream library. Knowing how to connect and help the community's stakeholders envision plans I desire for the library will help me when it comes to seeking assistance for bridging students needs.

Key Concept 3

Peace and Quiet

Palin discusses how modern learning commons aid collaboration among learners even with those who are against such practices. Ther must be a balance to accomdate time and needs for independent work and for learners who do better in a seperate space. The design and layout of the library is essential to the functionality of working spaces. Through distraction reductions learners can overcome working amongst noise by having designated quiet spaces and flexible seating. In my soon-to-be library, I have the opportunity to arrange and create spaces that enhance collaboration through lectures or makerspaces as well as housing spaces that limit noise input for learners. While the open cocnept library may limit secluded quiet spaces, I will need to figure out what layout works best to accomdodate my patrons and hopefully see if there's room for a "Walden Zone".

Involving Parents

Harris emphasizes that PTA and special school events are the gateway to securing parent involvement in the library. When the library media center is a focus and accessible, parents are more likely to come back. Utilizing parental skills and incorporating their unique job skills to tailor student engagement can raise library resource awareness. The article mentions hosting themed literacy nights, and as the new librarian, I hope to achieve parental footprints in the library through engaging family nights and and computer literacy skill activities.
