Marjorie is a young girl sitting in her own thoughts with her personal struggles. She is trying to manage school as well as her family's laundromat after her mother's death. She stuggles with grief and pressure of her new role as she is depended on.

During this time when Marjorie is feeling all these emotions and is trying to cope with the lose of her mother she finds something. His name was Wendell, a ghost who feels out of place in the ghost world, and escapes to the human world and ends up in Marjorie's laundromat..
Their paths crossed, and Marjorie initally struggles with the presence of a ghost in her laudromat. Their inital interactions are marked as misunderstandings and bit chaotic, as Wendell tries to help but often end up causing more problems. They began to hangout more and grew to like each other.
Majorie gets into a conflict with Mr. Saubertuck because he is trying to sabotage her family's laudromat. Mr. Saubertuck is a local businessman who wants to open a spa and see Marjorie's laundromat as an obstacle to his plans. He even tried to make the laundromat look bad and even attempting to scare away customers. Despite the circumstances she stayed resilient enough to protect her family's business.
Marjorie and Wendell develop a friendship, and Wendell helps Marjorie confront her grief and the challenges she faces. They find ways to save the laundromat from Mr. Saubertuck's schemes and come to terms with their respective losses.
Marjorie's character type is a protagonist. Her character is the central person to the story, and in the book we see her grow and develop as she begins to realize it is okay to talk about her feelings and to heal emotionally. Throughout the story we see her become more resilient and strong through the experiences she fights. Wendell is a secondary character in the story. He is not the main character but moves the plot along. Throughout the story interactions with him and Marjorie help him grow and find a sense of belonging. His character adds depth to the story by supporting main topics such as friendship, acceptance, and helping others. Mr. Saubertuck is the antagonist in the story. He is portrayed as manipulative and willing to use underhanded tactics to achieve his goals. His actions create a significant conflict and tension with making him an opponent for Marjorie. He adds a layer of adversity that Marjorie has to overcome supporting main topics such as how she is resilient and determined.
