The History of The Grand Palace
In 1782, the new King decided to move the capital city to the left bank of the Chao Phraya River for strategic purposes and used the canals to the west as defenses for the new city.
- The Palace currently covers over 218,000 square meters that are enclosed by crenallated walls measuring 19,000 meters.
- The Palace not only serves the current royals, but also the administrators of Thailand.
The Construction of The Grand Palace
The Grand Palace of Thailand reflects the traditional Thai, Khmer, and European architectural influences. The complex showcases intricate details and symbolic elements, creating a unique and regal atmosphere.
Influence
The influence of European architecture can be observed in the design of certain buildings within the Grand Palace complex. The use of symmetry, arcades, and neoclassical elements in some structures is genuinely marvellous
