Filipino American Farm worker strikes

Early 1930s
- strikes ended with UFW bargaining with grape growers
- with the Tydings-McDuffie Act ended, many lives were positively impacted by these strikes
- the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (a mainly Filipino organization) collaborated with the National Farmworkers Association (a mainly Mexican organization), resulting in a monumental strike against grape growers
- merged to form the United Farm Workers (UFW)
- Salina's Lettuce Strikes begin, fighting for better pay and working conditions
- Tydings-McDuffie Act enacted, restricting Filipino immigration into the U.S.
- Filipino Labor Union formed, strikes begin
- influx of Filipino immigrants to the West Coast for agricultural jobs
- hate crimes towards Filipinos and bad working conditions arise

Larry itliong
One of the "fathers of the West Coast labor movement," Itliong is best known for helping organizing labor strikes amongst Filipinos, and helped found the UFW along with Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. Itliong communicated through boycotts, marches, as well as speaking out vocally against injustice.
