Gritty. That's the one word I keep coming back to in order to describe this book. Summer's writing brings us to this dark and gritty place much like Gillian Flynn would. Sadie is hurt in the deepest possible ways, and she's on a mission to make the man responsible pay. What makes this book unique though is that it alternates chapters between Sadie's point of view and a viral podcast (think Serial or S-Town) about her disappearance. As we travel with Sadie, we also see the podcast try to retrace her steps, always a few behind her. I *highly* recommend listening to the audiobook of this novel. The podcast chapters are produced like a real podcast with a full cast of characters, sound effects, and more. While the acting was a bit stiff, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. I would have devoured this book faster if I wasn't always wanting to wait to listen to some episodes. This is a book that will definitely captivate young adults but will also bring adults along for this harrowing ride.
