Rosa Parks got arrested on December 1, 1955 because she wouldn't give up her seat to a white person. In Montgomery, Alabama

This is Rosa Parks
Because of this all the black people in the community stopped riding the buses till the would get equal rights for black people. This did lead to them getting desegregatated buy more than a year later.

The Greensboro Sit-ins

The Greensboro sit ins were when 4 college students got deined serive at a diner so they did a non-violent protest by sitting at the lunch counter. It happened in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1960.

These are the 4 college students that started the sit-in
They were important because it led to a wider sit-in movement by students fighting for equality. After a while more southern states around stated to desegregate because of the Greensboro sit-in.

On April 4, 1968 In Memphis, Tennessee James Earl Ray shot Martin Luther Kind Jr on the balcony of his motel room.
Him getting shot lead to a lot of violence in the city. This part of civil rights was important because his death energized the Black Power Movement and black became more distrustful to whites.

This is young Ruby Bridges walking into a whites-only school. And being guarded byt a couple of men.

These are a group of lawyers in the process of banning segregation in public schools.
