Nervous system
- Direct role in physical response to stress in the sympathetic nervous system (sns) contributes to fight or flight
- Sns signals adrenal gland to release epinephrine and cortisol causing the heart to beat faster, respiration rate to increase and blood vessels to dilate in arms and legs
- central nervous system triggers stress responses and regulates the autonomic nervous system and can be interpret threatening
- body returns to the pre-emergency, unstressed state after SNS response the action facilitated by the PNS, PNS over-activity can cause stress reactions like promoting bronchoconstriction, exaggerated vasodilation, and compromised blood circulation.
- Chronic stress can possibly result in long term drain of body
- causes body to wear down and overuse of nervous system is a problem for other body parts as they can become
Male Reproductive system
- fight or flight response produces testosterone activating SNS creating arousal
- Stress causes body to release cortisol produced by the adrenal gland
- Lots of cortisol affects the male biochemical function of reproductive system
- Chronic stress over time affects testosterone production which leads to a decrease in sex drive, also causing erectile dysfunction
- Negative impact on sperm production making it hard to conceive
- Infections due to stress in the testes, urethra, and prostate gland can also affect the reproductive function
Respiratory System
- Create breathing problems with people with respiratory diseases
- Death of a loved one can trigger asthma attacks with rapid breathing or hyperventilation
- Shortness of breath/ rapid breathing while airway between nose and lungs narrows in
